gPINE RIVER AREA FISHING REPORT

July 5, 2008

"I caught this northern below the Pine River Dam on Opening Day!"
The 4th of July saw fishing just as hot as the firecrackers in the Pine River area! Walleys, northern pike and bass have been very active in most lakes and good reports are coming in from the entire area! Walleyes are being taken in fifteen to thirty feet of water and are being caught on leeches, nightcrawlers on slip sinker and slip bobber rigs. Northern pike and bass are taking spinnerbaits on windy days and crank baits and top water lures during calmer periods of the day. Panfish continue to be aggressive in most lakes with good size being reported. Look for muskie action to pick up as the water temps continue to rise with warmer weather. The late spring has prolonged the "bite" on most lakes and provided anglers with a longer spring season.
Good luck!!

The Pine River Lions Club hold their annual "Take A Kid Fishing Day" every June and all kids attending experience a exciting, fun filled day on the water!

Pine River Depot Restoration Project Update
April 12, 2008

Progress may be being made on the move and restoration of the historic Pine River Railroad Depot!
Through a combined effort of the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the City of Pine River, Cass County, the Pine River Chamber of Commerce and Heritage Group North, funding has been approved that will move and begin the restoration of the depot in the year 2008!
Exciting news for Pine River!

For a listing of historic Minnesota railroad depots you may go to:
http://www.denverrails.com/db/stlist.cfm?state=MN
The Pine River Depot is number 30 on the list.
Its web page presents some reasons for restoring the depot, a glimpse at the project’s history thus far, the vision for the depot restoration and plans for funding the project.  A donor list will be added at a later date.  The webpage will be updated as progress is made toward the ultimate goal of depot restoration and preservation.
